Pseudoeurycea is a group of salamanders often called false brook salamanders. These amazing creatures are part of the Plethodontidae family. You can find them living in parts of Mexico and Guatemala.

About False Brook Salamanders

False brook salamanders are a type of amphibian. This means they can live both on land and in water. They are known for their smooth, moist skin and long tails. Like all salamanders, they need a damp environment to survive.

How Scientists Group Salamanders

Scientists work hard to understand how different animals are related. Sometimes, they move species into new groups. This helps them make sure that each group, or genus, contains only animals that are very closely related.

For example, some salamanders used to be part of the Pseudoeurycea group. But to keep the Pseudoeurycea family clear, some species were moved. Salamanders from the "Pseudoeurycea bellii species group" now belong to the genus Isthmura. Also, those from the "Pseudoeurycea cephalica species group" are now in the Aquiloeurycea genus. This helps scientists better understand the salamander family tree.
