Puertecitos is a small town located in the Mexican state of Baja California. It's about 90 kilometers (or 56 miles) south of San Felipe. This quiet spot is a popular place for both people on vacation and those from the United States who have moved there.

The town sits on a low hill overlooking the Gulf of California to the east. On its west side, it faces the calm inner bay of Puertecitos. Rafael Orozco first settled the Puertecitos bay permanently in 1949.

Climate and Weather

Puertecitos has a very dry climate. It gets only about two inches of rain each year. The weather here is very similar to that in nearby San Felipe.

Things to Do in Puertecitos

Puertecitos is famous for its natural hot springs found along the rocky coastline. These warm pools are a big draw for visitors. There is a small fee to use these special hot springs.

Staying and Camping

You won't find any big hotels in Puertecitos. However, there are many different places where you can set up camp.

• Bahia Cristina's: About 6.4 kilometers (4 miles) south of Puertecitos, this spot has a restaurant.
• Bahia Encantada: This bay has calm waters and running water available, but no restaurant.

Getting Around

It's a good idea to fill up your gas tank in San Felipe before driving to Puertecitos. Gas is not always available at the local Pemex station in Puertecitos.

Best Time to Visit

The best times to visit Puertecitos are during the spring or autumn months. The weather is usually very pleasant then, making it perfect for exploring the hot springs and enjoying the bay.
