Fernández Alonso is a town and a special area, called a municipality, in Bolivia. It's located in the Santa Cruz Department, which is like a state, and within the Obispo Santistevan Province, which is a smaller region. This place is also known simply as Fernández Alonso.
History
How Fernández Alonso Became a Municipality
A municipality is like a local government area, similar to a city or county, that manages its own services. The area of Fernández Alonso officially became its own municipality on January 28, 2002. This happened when a special law, called Law 2320, was passed.
Before 2002, Fernández Alonso was not a separate municipality. It was part of a larger area managed by the municipality of Montero.
Cantons of Fernández Alonso
When Fernández Alonso became a municipality, it included two smaller areas known as cantons. Cantons are like smaller districts within a municipality. The two cantons that make up the Fernández Alonso municipality are:
