Puerto Morín is a Peruvian village and a beach located in the Virú District, in the La Libertad Region. It is about 45 kilometers (about 28 miles) south of the city of Trujillo. Puerto Morín is part of the area managed by the Municipality of Santa Elena, which is in the Virú Province.
History of Puerto Morín
Long ago, in the late 1800s, the Guañape cove was a simple beach. People mostly came here to fish. The area got its current name, Puerto Morín, after a small dock was built.
This dock was constructed by a Frenchman named Carlos Marie Morin Dutot. He arrived in Peru in the 1870s and worked with the local people to build the dock. That's how the beach became known as Puerto Morín.
Puerto Morín is also a great starting point to visit the Guañape Islands. These islands are home to many different kinds of marine life. You can find sea lions and various bird species living there.
