Future Plans for Puhinui Station
There are exciting plans to make Puhinui station even better. The idea is to create a new place where you can easily switch between buses and trains. This is called a bus-rail interchange.
Connecting to the Airport
One big plan is to connect the airport to Botany Downs with a new fast transit line. Puhinui station will be a key stop on this line. The new interchange will be built in two main steps.
Stage One of the Upgrade
The first stage of the upgrade is expected to be ready in June 2021. This part includes:
- A new bus and train interchange built at ground level.
- Improvements to the station itself.
- Buses will still use the current Bridge Street to cross the railway line. This road connects to Manukau.
Stage Two of the Upgrade
The second stage will add a special bridge for the rapid transit line. This bridge will go over the railway tracks. It will make the connection even faster and more direct. The new rapid transit line will connect with the improved station on this bridge. The first stage of this project is estimated to cost about $59 million. The new line will also pass through Manukau railway station before reaching Botany.
