Pushim (プシン, born November 26, 1975), whose birth name is Paku Pushin (朴 冨心), is a famous Japanese reggae artist. She is known for her unique voice and style. Pushim creates music that mixes reggae with other sounds like soul, R&B, and hip hop. She works with Sony Music Japan's Ki/oon Records label.
Pushim started her music journey in 1995 in the Kansai area of Japan. This region is known for its lively reggae music scene. In 1998, she sang backup vocals for a song called "It's Too Late." This song was a cover of a classic by Carole King.
After joining Sony Music Japan, Pushim released her first single, "Brand New Day," on June 19, 1999. It was very popular and received good reviews. Later that year, in September 1999, she released her second single, "Strong Woman," which was also a big hit.
In the spring of 2000, Pushim released her first album, Say Greetings!. She had recorded this album in Jamaica the year before. Jamaica is the birthplace of reggae music. Pushim even performed at Reggae Sumfest in 2003, which is a big reggae festival in Jamaica. Her 2006 album, Sing A Song... Lighter!, featured another reggae artist named Luciano. Pushim often visits Jamaica to record new music. In 2007, she recorded there with famous musicians like Sly & Robbie.
In 2010, Pushim was nominated for the 'Best Reggae Video' award at the MTV Video Music Awards Japan. This showed her growing popularity and influence in the music world.
Pushim is a Zainichi Korean. This means she is of Korean descent but lives in Japan. Her younger sister, Youngshim, is also a reggae musician. Youngshim performs in the Osaka area, just like Pushim did when she started.
