Qamar Jalalvi (Urdu: قمَر جلالوی), whose real name was Muhammad Husain, was a well-known Pakistani poet. People also called him Ustad Qamar Jalalvi. He was born in 1887 in Jalali, a town near Aligarh in India. After Pakistan was created in 1947, he moved to Karachi. He passed away in Karachi on October 4, 1968.

Qamar Jalalvi is thought to be one of the best classical Urdu Ghazal poets. A ghazal is a type of poem with rhyming couplets and a refrain. His ghazal poems were special because they were very simple to understand.
He started writing poetry when he was only eight years old. By the time he was in his twenties, his poems were already quite popular.
His Life and the Title 'Ustad'
Qamar Jalalvi faced money problems for much of his life. He worked for many years in bicycle repair shops. In India and Pakistan, a teacher of arts is called Ustad, which means "master." This word is also used for any skilled worker.
At first, people called Qamar Jalalvi "Ustad" because of his skill in repairing bicycles. Later, when his poetry became famous, critics also called him "Ustad Qamar Jalalvi." This showed they respected his amazing skill in writing poems too.
