The name Qarwaqucha comes from the Quechua language. In Quechua, qarwa means "yellowish" and qucha means "lake." So, Qarwaqucha means "yellowish lake."
Sometimes, the mountain is also called Qarwa Punta. Punta means "peak" or "ridge" in Quechua, so this name means "yellowish peak." You might also see it spelled as Carhuacocha or Carhuapunta. Another name for the mountain is Flery Punta.

Qarwaqucha is found in the Ancash Region of Peru. Specifically, it is in the Santa Province, within the Cáceres del Perú District. It stands near a small lake that shares its name.
