Quavers are a popular British snack. They are light, curly, and made from potato. They first came out in the UK in 1968. A company called Smith's originally made them. Since 1997, another company, Walkers, has produced them. The name "Quavers" comes from a musical note. Both the snack and the note have a fun, curly shape!

The Story of Quavers
Quavers first appeared in 1968. Their first advertising slogan was "you get a lovely lot of Quavers in a bag." People described them as "curly potato puffs."
Early Flavours
When Quavers first launched, they came in two main flavours: cheese and smoky bacon. Over the years, many other flavours were tried. These included Spicy Beef, Sweet and Sour, Prawn Cocktail, and Ketchup.
Changes Over Time
In 1993, a Salt and Vinegar flavour was added. Around this time, the packaging started to show the Walkers brand name. Walkers, which is owned by PepsiCo, bought the Quavers brand in 1995.
In 1996, a Tangy Tomato flavour joined the range. By 1997, Quavers became part of Walkers' "Snackshack" collection. The snack was relaunched a couple of times in 1998 and 1999. In 1998, Prawn Cocktail flavour came back with a new recipe. In 1999, the Cheese flavour was refreshed. The packaging got another new look in 2000.
In 2002, a "Streaky Bacon" flavour was introduced. It had pink and brown pieces that looked like bacon! For Halloween in 2004 and 2005, special Ghost-shaped Cheese Quavers were released.
Packaging Updates
In 2007, Walkers changed the packaging for Quavers and other snacks. This new packaging showed that they were using sunseed oil. The multipack bags also changed their design. The Quavers logo was updated slightly.
In 2009, Quavers and other snacks changed their packaging again. This was to highlight that they had "99 Calories or Less" per pack. The Cheese flavour even went down to 87 calories per standard pack.
In 2011, Quavers packaging became brighter. The Walkers logo was clearly visible on the packets again. For a while, only the Cheese flavour was widely available. In 2013, the six-pack wrappers were made smaller to use less plastic.
In 2019, the packaging was updated again. This update let people know that less plastic was being used in the packets.
Popular Flavours Return
In December 2020, Walkers announced exciting news. Due to popular demand, Prawn Cocktail and Salt and Vinegar flavours would return to shelves in February 2021.
What Are Quavers Like?
Quavers are mostly made from potato starch. They are deep fried to make them light and crispy. They have a texture similar to prawn crackers. However, Quavers have a different taste and are smaller. They have a curled-up rectangle shape, just like a musical quaver note!
A single pack of regular Cheese Quavers has about 86 calories. The Salt and Vinegar flavour has about 83 calories.
