Quick, Nebraska facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Quick is a small, quiet place in Frontier County, Nebraska, in the United States. It's called an "unincorporated area" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

History of Quick

Quick was once a busy little community, especially in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The Quick Post Office

A post office was opened in Quick in 1887. This was a very important place back then! People didn't have cell phones or email, so they relied on the post office to send and receive letters and packages. The Quick post office stayed open for many years, finally closing its doors in 1945.

Interestingly, this post office was run out of a special kind of house called a "sod house." These houses were built using blocks of earth and grass, which was common in the prairie lands of Nebraska when settlers first arrived. The land owner, M. Quick, ran the post office from his sod house.

The General Store

Besides the post office, Quick also had a general store. This store sold all sorts of things that people needed for their daily lives, from food to tools. It was a central spot for the community to gather and buy supplies. The general store continued to operate until the 1940s. It was located near the intersection of Highway 83 and Road 732.

Today, Quick is a quiet spot, but its history reminds us of the small communities that helped build Nebraska.
