Quinn Peak is a very tall mountain located in the Jackson Mountains. You can find it in Humboldt County, Nevada, in the United States. It is the highest point in the Jackson Mountains.
Quinn Peak is also special because it is the most topographically prominent peak in Humboldt County. This means it stands out a lot from the land around it. It ranks as the tenth most prominent peak in all of Nevada. The mountain is on public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This means there are no special rules to visit it.
Why is it called Dan Dobbins Peak?
Sometimes, Quinn Peak is also called "Dan Dobbins Peak." A note found on the mountain, dated October 8, 1988, explains why. It says the peak was named after Dan Dobbins. He was a young climber and a leader from the Mother Lode Chapter. Sadly, Dan Dobbins passed away in an accident in 1978.
Remembering Dan Dobbins
Daniel Dobbins was 24 years old when he died on November 21, 1978. He was driving a van near San Juan Bautista. To honor his memory, the Mother Lode Chapter of the Sierra Club created an award. In 1986, they gave out the first Dan Dobbins Youth Award. This award helps remember his inspiring leadership.
