Río Caribe is a colorful fishing town. It is located about 22 kilometers (14 miles) from Carúpano in Sucre State, Eastern Venezuela. This town is the main city of the Arismendi municipality.

History of Río Caribe
Río Caribe started in 1713. Its first name was San Miguel de Río Caribe. It was the second town built by the Spaniards in Sucre State. In the 1800s, many people from Italy and Corsica came to live here.
Life in Río Caribe
Río Caribe has a busy port. This port helps a strong fishing industry grow. They process and pack seafood here. The town also has shops, banks, and other things for visitors. It is a good starting point to visit beautiful beaches like Playa Medina and Playa Pui Pui.
Some people call Río Caribe the City of the Masters of Cacao. This is because of Hacienda Agua Santa, a farm nearby. This old farm grows some of the best cocoa beans in the country. These beans are famous in Venezuela and around the world.
The Hacienda also offers tours. On these tours, visitors can see how cacao is grown and dried. The tours often end with tasting chocolate made right there. Besides cacao, the area also grows bananas and corn.
The region also has lots of natural gas and light oil. A big reserve of these is about 30 kilometers (19 miles) off the coast.
Important Places to See
The Church of Río Caribe is a great example of old Spanish building style. It was built in 1717 and fixed up in 1919. Many of the town's old Spanish colonial houses are also still standing. Most of them were built in the late 1800s.
Other important places are close by. These include the chapels of El Calvario and San Miguel Arcángel.
Famous People from Río Caribe
Río Caribe is the hometown of some well-known people. One is Germán González, a baseball player. He played for the Minnesota Twins in 1988 and 1989. Another famous person is Irene Esser, who was crowned Miss Venezuela 2011.
