Robert Eugene Pincham (born June 28, 1925 – died April 3, 2008) was an important American attorney and civil rights activist. He worked as a judge in Illinois for many years. He was known for fighting for fairness and equality for all people.

Early Life and Education

R. Eugene Pincham was born on June 28, 1925. He grew up in a town called Athens, Alabama. He worked hard in school and went to college.

He first studied at LeMoyne College in Memphis, Tennessee. Later, he earned a science degree from Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Mr. Pincham then decided to study law. He earned his law degree from Northwestern University's School of Law. He became a lawyer in Illinois in 1951. He was also allowed to argue cases in the highest court, the Supreme Court of the United States, starting in 1965.

Becoming a Judge

R. Eugene Pincham became a judge in 1976. He served on the Cook County Circuit Court. This court handles many different types of legal cases.

In 1984, he was appointed to a higher court. He became a judge on the Illinois Appellate Court. This court reviews decisions made by lower courts. He was elected to this position in 1986.

Judge Pincham resigned from his judge role in 1989. He wanted to run for a different public office. He aimed to become the President of the Cook County Board of Commissioners.

Running for Mayor

In 1991, R. Eugene Pincham ran for mayor of Chicago. He was the candidate for the Harold Washington Party. This party was named after a popular former mayor.

Even though he worked hard, he did not win the election. He lost to the other candidate by a large number of votes.

Later Career and Legacy

After his mayoral campaign, Pincham continued to be involved in public life. In 1996, he ran for Cook County State's Attorney. This person is the chief prosecutor for the county. He placed third in that election.

R. Eugene Pincham was a strong supporter of civil rights. He was a member of the American Civil Liberties Union. He was also a lifetime member of the NAACP. These groups work to protect people's rights.

He often gave speeches and taught others about law. He received many awards for his work in the community. He was known for speaking out about fairness in the legal system.

Many people, especially in the African-American community, saw him as a hero. He was a role model for many young people. He passed away on April 3, 2008, in Chicago.
