Raghunatha Rao Ramachandra Rao (born around 1871 – died July 1936) was a very smart and active person from India. He was a civil servant, which means he worked for the government. He was also a talented mathematician and someone who worked hard for social and political causes. He held an important job called District Collector during the time when India was ruled by the British.

Early Life and Learning
Ramachandra Rao was born in 1871 into a well-known family in Thanjavur. He went to school in a city called Trivandrum. After that, he studied at the Presidency College, Madras, where he finished his education.
His Career in Government
Rao started working for the Indian government in 1890 when he was just 19 years old. This was part of the Indian Civil Service, which was a group of important jobs.
- From 1890 to 1891, he worked as an Assistant Collector and Magistrate. This meant he helped manage a district and also helped with legal matters.
- From 1891 to 1892, he worked in the department that handled money and taxes.
- In 1892, he became a Deputy Collector, and in 1898, he became a Sub Collector. These were higher-level jobs in managing different areas.
- In 1901, Rao became the main boss, the District Collector, for a place called Kurnool. He stayed there until 1907.
- He then worked as the Registrar of Cooperative Societies from 1907 to 1910. This job involved helping groups of people work together for common goals.
- From 1910 to 1914, he was the District Collector of Nellore. He also worked for the Indian Public Services Commission for a short time in 1914.
- Ramachandra Rao retired in 1926. His last job was as the District Collector of Madras.
Later Years and Passing Away
After he retired from his government jobs, Rao spent his time helping society and getting involved in politics. He helped organize a big exhibition in Madras in 1927. This was during a large meeting of the Indian National Congress, a major political group.
Rao always wore clothes made in India, called Swadeshi clothes. He was also a close friend of C. Rajagopalachari, another important leader.
In 1930, Ramachandra Rao became very ill and could not move easily. He stayed in bed after that. He passed away in July 1936 when he was 65 years old.
Other Talents and Interests
Besides his government work, Ramachandra Rao was very interested in math and astronomy (the study of stars and planets). He was even the president of the Indian Mathematical Society from 1915 to 1917.
He is also remembered for helping a brilliant mathematician named Srinivasa Ramanujan. When Ramanujan didn't have a job, Rao helped him get a clerk's job at the Madras Port Trust. This support was very important for Ramanujan's amazing work in mathematics.
