Robert "Silyn" Roberts (born March 28, 1871, died August 15, 1930) was a talented Welsh person. He was a minister in a church, a writer, a teacher, and someone who believed in peace. He is remembered for his poems and for helping people get a better education.

Early Life and Education
Robert Roberts was born in a place called Bryn Llidiart, in Llanllyfni, Wales. When he was young, he worked in a slate quarry. This was a tough job, but he was determined to learn more.
He later went to college at the University College of North Wales, Bangor. After that, he studied at Bala Theological College. These studies helped him become a minister.
A Poet and Minister
Silyn Roberts was a Calvinistic Methodist minister. This means he led a church and taught about his faith. He was also a very famous poet who wrote in the Welsh language.
In 1902, he won a special award called the Crown at the National Eisteddfod of Wales. This is a big festival in Wales that celebrates Welsh culture. He won for his poem called "Trystan ac Esyllt."
From 1901 to 1912, he worked as a minister. He served in Lewisham, London, and then in Tanygrisiau, a town in Wales.
Meeting a Famous Leader
While living in London in the early 1900s, Silyn Roberts met a very important person. He became friends with Vladimir Lenin, who later became a famous leader in Russia.
Helping His Community
Silyn Roberts was a Socialist. This means he believed that everyone in society should be equal and that the government should help people. He worked closely with a politician named W. J. Gruffydd.
He was also a member of the Labour Party. He represented them on the Merioneth County Council. This council helped make decisions for the local area.
Championing Education
Silyn Roberts cared a lot about education for everyone. He worked with Thomas Jones to help adults get learning opportunities. They started a group called the Workers Educational Association in North Wales. This group helped working people continue their education.
He also supported efforts to fight against a serious illness called tuberculosis in Wales. He wanted to make sure people were healthy and had good lives.
