Discover Rachel Carson Playground
This park first opened its doors in 1946. It was named to honor a very important person, Rachel Carson. She wrote a famous book called Silent Spring. This book helped people understand how important it is to protect our environment.
A Park for Everyone
In 1978, a lot of money was spent to make the park even better. This project made sure that kids of all abilities could enjoy the park. It was even formally called "Playground for All Children" for a while. This means it was designed to be welcoming for everyone, no matter if they use a wheelchair or have other physical needs.
Fun Updates Over the Years
The park has been updated several times to keep it modern and fun. In 1999, more money was used to add new features. These included a baseball field with a backstop and dugouts for players. They also added basketball courts, handball courts, and places to run. Plus, there are picnic areas with tables where you can eat snacks.
More recently, the park got new renovations in 2011. The old baseball field was changed into a cool green platform. Then, between 2017 and 2018, even more improvements were made. These updates help make sure the park stays a great place to play for years to come.
