Rachel Renée Russell, born on March 13, 1959, is an American author. She is famous for creating the popular children's book series Dork Diaries. She also writes its spin-off series, The Misadventures of Max Crumbly.
Russell grew up in Saint Joseph, Michigan. She has four younger siblings: two sisters and twin brothers. She went to Northwestern University and then studied law. By 2013, she was living in Chantilly, Virginia.

The Dork Diaries books are written like a diary. They use fun doodles, drawings, and comic strips to tell the story. The main character is Nikki Maxwell. The books show her daily life as she tries to fit in and deal with middle school challenges.

The Misadventures of Max Crumbly is another series by Rachel Renée Russell. It's about a character named Maxwell Crumbly. He also keeps a diary about his adventures and challenges in middle school.
