Rachel Renée Russell (born March 13, 1959) is a popular American author. She is best known for her fun children's book series, Dork Diaries. She also writes its spin-off series, The Misadventures of Max Crumbly.
Russell grew up in Saint Joseph, Michigan. She has four younger brothers and sisters. She went to Northwestern University and then studied law. As of 2013, she lives in Chantilly, Virginia.

The Dork Diaries Series
The Dork Diaries books are written like a diary. They use lots of doodles, drawings, and comic strips. The stories follow the daily life of the main character, Nikki Maxwell. She tries to fit in and get through middle school.
Rachel Renée Russell based the series on her own experiences in middle school. Her daughter, Nikki, helps illustrate the books. The main character, Nikki Maxwell, is even named after her daughter!
The Misadventures of Max Crumbly
The Misadventures of Max Crumbly is another diary-style series. It is about a character named Maxwell Crumbly. He writes about his own challenges in middle school. Max Crumbly first appeared in Dork Diaries: Tales From A Not-So Perfect Pet Sitter.
