Rachel India True (born November 15, 1966) is an American actress. She is famous for her roles in movies like The Craft (1996), Nowhere (1997), and Half Baked (1998). Rachel True also played Mona Thorne in the TV show Half & Half, which was on from 2002 to 2006.
Early Life
Rachel True was born in New York City. She is the middle child of three. Her father has Ashkenazi Jewish roots, and her mother is African American. Her younger sister, Noel, is also an actress. Rachel True went to New York University.
Career Highlights
Rachel True started her TV career in 1991 on Cosby Show. In 1993, she moved to Los Angeles. She made her first movie appearance in the comedy CB4, playing Chris Rock's character's girlfriend. She also appeared in popular TV shows like Hangin' with Mr. Cooper, Beverly Hills, 90210, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
In 1996, Rachel True got a big role as Rochelle Zimmerman in the movie The Craft. In this supernatural horror film, she played a member of a teenage coven (a group of witches). She worked hard to get the part, even though it was first written for a white actress. In 1997, she starred in the movie Nowhere. The next year, she was Dave Chappelle's romantic interest in the comedy Half Baked. From 1997 to 1998, she also had a repeating role on The Drew Carey Show.
Rachel True appeared in many independent movies. These include With or Without You (1999) and Groove (2000). She starred with Monica in the 2000 movie Love Song. From 2002 to 2006, she starred in the TV show Half & Half. In this show, she played one of two half-sisters who were getting to know each other as adults.
Later, she appeared in the comedy movie The Perfect Holiday (2007). She also acted in several made-for-TV films. In 2017, Rachel True worked as a tarot-card reader in Echo Park.
In 2020, Rachel True released her book, True Heart Intuitive Tarot, Guidebook And Deck. She appeared in the horror movies Agnes and Horror Noire in 2021. In 2022, she joined the cast of the TV show Harlem on Amazon Prime Video. That same year, she returned to play Mary Jane Potman in Half Baked 2, a sequel to her 1998 comedy.
