Radekhiv is a city in the Lviv Oblast (region) of Ukraine. It is home to about 9,680 people. The city is part of the Sheptytskyi Raion.
Some famous people have connections to Radekhiv. Ed Stelmach, who was the leader of the Canadian province of Alberta from 2006 to 2011, has family roots here. Also, Kazimierz Wladyslaw Kumaniecki, a Polish lawyer and government minister, was born in Radekhiv. Other notable people born here include Polish diplomat Marian Szumlakowski and Polish art historian Juliusz Ross.
Radekhiv used to be the main town of its own district, called Radekhiv Raion. In 2020, Ukraine changed its administrative areas. Radekhiv's district was combined with others to form the larger Sheptytskyi Raion.

History of Radekhiv
Early Beginnings and Challenges
The first time Radekhiv was mentioned in writing was in the year 1472. The land where the city now stands was once part of the Belz principality. This was an old kingdom that existed around 1170. It was connected to other important kingdoms like Volodymyr-Volyn and Galicia-Volyn.
In 1578, a group called the Tatars attacked the area. They completely destroyed Radekhiv and several nearby villages. This event is recorded in old tax books from that time.
Growth Under Noble Families
In the early 1700s, Radekhiv became the property of a wealthy person known as Count Mir. The Count built a large palace in Radekhiv. This palace became the main center of his huge land holdings. Slowly, trade began to grow in the town, helping it become a city.
Later, in the second half of the 1800s, the Radekhiv lands passed to the family of Count Badeni. He became the owner after marrying Count Mir's daughter. Count Badeni was one of the richest landowners in the Galicia region. He was also an important governor for the Austrian emperor in Galicia.
Count Badeni made many changes to the palace. He made it bigger and more grand. He also created a beautiful park and built a greenhouse. To protect his property, he ordered a three-meter-high stone wall to be built around it. Count Badeni helped himself become even richer during this time.
Life in the Late 1800s
Around 1880, Radekhiv had a population of 3,555 people. Records show that 129 people worked at the public court. This tells us about the size and organization of the town.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, many groups were active in Radekhiv. One group was called the "Farmer" society. There was also a "Money Society of Friends of School Children." For 16 years, this group helped poor children with money for school. They helped children no matter their background or religion. Another group was the Brotherhood of Sobriety, which promoted a healthy lifestyle.
Education and Community
Since the mid-1800s, a group called the Prosvita society has been active. This group worked to protect the Ukrainian language and culture. They also wanted to improve education for local Ukrainian people. A reading room was opened in Radekhiv in May 1897. This gave people a place to read and learn.
In November 1912, a special building called the People's House was officially opened. Today, this building is home to the Radekhiv Central Library. The People's House was once a place for many important groups. It had an industrial school, a folk school, and offices for the Native School, Enlightenment, and Agricultural Society.
In 1910, a railroad line was finished in Radekhiv. This line connected Lviv to Stoyaniv. Count Badeni helped pay for this important project.
Towards the end of 2018, Radekhiv became the main center of a new, larger community area.
