Radovan Višković (Serbian Cyrillic: Радован Вишковић) was born on February 1, 1964. He is a politician from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Since December 2018, he has been serving as the 12th Prime Minister of Republika Srpska. He is a member of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats political party.
Early Life and Education
Radovan Višković was born in 1964 in a place called Buljevići. This area is near Vlasenica, which is now part of the Milići municipality.
He studied at the Faculty of Transportation in Sarajevo. In 1990, he earned a degree in traffic engineering, focusing on road transport. After graduating, he worked there as an assistant.
Later, he continued his studies. In 2005, he completed postgraduate studies. In 2015, he finished his doctoral studies. After this, he became a professor at the Faculty of Transportation in Doboj. He taught about transport engineering and road traffic.
Political Career
Radovan Višković started his journey in politics in 2004. He became a member of the Municipal Assembly of Milići. This was his first step into public service.
He was elected to the National Assembly of Republika Srpska several times. He won elections in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2018. The National Assembly is like the parliament for Republika Srpska.
While in the National Assembly, he led the group for his political party. He was the Chairman of the parliamentary group for the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD).
In November 2018, Milorad Dodik, who leads the SNSD party, announced a big decision. He chose Višković to be the new Prime Minister of Republika Srpska. Višković took over from Željka Cvijanović. She had become the President of Republika Srpska.
In July 2023, the United States placed sanctions on Višković. This was done because they believed his actions were threatening peace and cooperation in the Western Balkans. They also stated his actions might be undermining the Dayton Agreement.
