Rae Perlin (born September 11, 1910 – died March 5, 2006) was a talented Canadian artist and nurse. She was born in St. John's, Newfoundland. Rae Perlin became well-known for her beautiful sketches and her paintings. Her painting style was often described as impressionist, which means she used visible brushstrokes to capture light and movement.

Who Was Rae Perlin?
Rae Perlin was born on September 11, 1910. She was the youngest of six children in her family. Rae went to school at Bishop Spencer College in St. John's. She also attended a private school in Ontario.
Early Life and Nursing Career
When she was young, Rae moved to New York. There, she decided to study nursing. She finished nursing school in 1934. Rae worked as a nurse during tough times. This included the Great Depression and World War II. Even though she was a nurse, her true passion was art.
Becoming an Artist
Rae Perlin loved art more than nursing. She studied with famous artists like Samuel Brecher and Hans Hofmann. In 1950, she moved to Paris, France. She wanted to learn even more about art. She studied at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and Académie Ranson.
After Paris, Rae moved to London, England. She continued her art studies at the Polytechnic of Central London. In 1959, she returned to St. John's. She came back to care for her mother, who was not well. She worked at the St. John's General Hospital, but she still preferred art.
Later Life and Legacy
Rae Perlin's artwork is shown in many art galleries. In 1994, a book was written about her life. It was called Not A Still Life by Mariam Francis White. In 1969, Rae joined the Baháʼí Faith. She was one of the first people from Newfoundland to do so.
Rae Perlin passed away on March 5, 2006, in St. John's. She had been living with Alzheimer's for a long time. Her art continues to inspire many people.
