Raffaello is a delicious, round sweet treat made by the Italian company Ferrero. It first came out in 1990. Imagine a crispy, light wafer shell that holds a smooth, white creamy center. Inside that cream is a crunchy, white almond. The whole sweet is then covered in tasty coconut flakes!

Raffaello sweets are made in different factories around the world. Some of these factories are in places like Vladimir in Russia, Brantford in Canada, and Arlon in Belgium. Russia is actually the biggest market for Raffaello, meaning a lot of people there love to buy them!

Just so you know, Raffaello does have lactose, which is a type of sugar found in milk. So, if someone has lactose intolerance (meaning their body has trouble digesting lactose), they might need to choose a different treat.

The Story of Raffaello

Legal Challenges

In 2008, a company connected to Ferrero started a legal case against a Ukrainian company. This Ukrainian company had begun making a sweet that looked very similar to Raffaello. Ferrero's company felt that their special design for Raffaello was copied. After a long court process, a court in Ukraine decided that the Ukrainian company had not broken any rules.

In 2017, a court in Frankfurt in Germany made a rule about how Raffaello sweets are sold. The court said that Ferrero had to clearly show how many Raffaello sweets were in each packet. Before this, packets only showed the total weight of the sweets inside.
