About Ragen Hatcher
Ragen Hatcher was born on July 5, 1978. Her father, Richard G. Hatcher, was a very important person in Gary, Indiana, because he used to be the mayor of the city. The mayor is the leader of a city government.
Starting in Politics
Ragen Hatcher began her journey in politics by serving on the city council in Gary. A city council is a group of people who make decisions for a city. She was a member of the Gary City Council from 2007 to 2011.
In 2011, she decided to run for mayor of Gary, just like her father. However, she did not win that election.
Returning to the City Council
Even though she didn't win the mayoral race, Ragen Hatcher continued her public service. She was elected to the Gary City Council again in 2015. This showed her dedication to helping her community.
Serving in the State House
In 2018, Ragen Hatcher ran for a new position. She wanted to represent the third district in the Indiana House of Representatives. This is a bigger role, where she helps create laws for the entire state of Indiana, not just her city. She won this election and took over from another politician named Charlie Brown.
Future Plans
After joining the Indiana House of Representatives, Ragen Hatcher thought about running for the Indiana Senate in 2020. The Senate is another part of the state's law-making body. However, the person who held that seat, Eddie Melton, decided to run for re-election. So, Ragen Hatcher chose to run for her State Representative seat again, continuing her work in the Indiana House.
