Rahaman Ali, born Rudolph Arnett Clay on July 18, 1943, was an American heavyweight boxer. He was famous for being the younger brother of the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali. Rahaman Ali passed away on August 1, 2025.

Rahaman Ali's Early Life and Boxing Career
Rahaman Ali was born Rudolph Arnett Clay on July 18, 1943, in Louisville, Kentucky. His parents were Cassius Marcellus Clay Sr. and Odessa Grady Clay. He was 18 months younger than his famous brother, Cassius Jr., who later became known as Muhammad Ali.
Both brothers started boxing in an amateur league in Louisville. While Muhammad Ali went on to compete in the 1960 Olympics, Rahaman stayed an amateur boxer for a while longer. He turned professional on February 25, 1964. This was the same night his brother Muhammad won his very first world heavyweight title!
Rahaman's Professional Boxing Journey
Rahaman Ali's professional boxing career lasted from 1964 to 1972. During this time, he competed as a Heavyweight boxer. He won 14 matches, lost 3, and had one draw (a tie). Seven of his wins were by knockout, which means he ended the fight early by knocking out his opponent. He was only knocked out once himself.
He decided to retire from professional boxing after two losses in a row. After his boxing career, Rahaman often traveled and trained with his brother Muhammad. He even appeared as himself in Muhammad Ali's 1977 movie, The Greatest.
Books and Documentaries
Rahaman Ali also shared his life story through books and documentaries. In 2014, he released his autobiography called That's Muhammad Ali's Brother! My Life on the Undercard. This book told about his experiences growing up and his life alongside his famous brother.
Later, in 2019, he released another book titled My Brother, Muhammad Ali - The Definitive Biography. He also appeared in a documentary in 2021 called Blood Brothers: Malcolm X & Muhammad Ali. In the same year, he was featured in three episodes of a documentary series about his brother, Muhammad Ali.
Rahaman Ali's Passing
Rahaman Ali passed away on August 1, 2025, shortly after his 82nd birthday. His funeral took place on August 16, 2025. During the funeral procession, his family made a special stop at his childhood home. A Janazah funeral service, which is a traditional service for people of the Muslim faith, was held at the Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky. Rahaman Ali was then laid to rest at the Cave Hill Cemetery.
