Rashin Rahman (born on May 23, 1967), known simply as Rahman, is a famous Indian actor. He has starred in about 200 movies. Most of his films are in Malayalam cinema. He has also acted in Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu movies. Rahman has won many awards for his acting. In Tamil and Telugu films, people also know him as Raghuman or Raghu.
He started his acting journey in 1983 with the movie Koodevide. For this first role, he won the Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actor. In the 1980s, he was a very popular teen idol in Malayalam films. This made him a big star. Later, he began playing lead roles in Tamil and Telugu movies. He returned to Malayalam films in 2004.

Starting in Malayalam Films
In 1983, Rahman was in high school in Ooty. A well-known Malayalam director, Padmarajan, saw him. Padmarajan offered him the main role in his film Koodevide. This movie was a huge hit, and Rahman became an instant sensation. People loved his acting. He won the Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actor at just 16 years old.
In 1984, he acted in Kaliyil Alpam Karyam and Ithiri Poove Chuvannapoove. He received great reviews and awards for his work in Ithiri Poove Chuvannapoove. That same year, he starred in Kanamarayathu. This film was a big success. The song Oru Madhurakinavin from the movie became very popular. It is still a famous dance number in Malayalam cinema.
He continued to work with top directors like I. V. Sasi and K. S. Sethumadhavan. Films like Uyarangalil and Ariyaatha Veethikal showed his talent. By 1985, Rahman had a huge fan base. He starred in many successful films like Kandu Kandarinju and Angadikkappurathu. He also appeared in romantic films such as Ivide Ee Theerathu and Koodum Thedi.
In 1986, he was in the hit film Vartha with Mammootty and Mohanlal. He also played the main character, Nathan, in Ennu Nathante Nimmi. His martial arts movie Chilambu was also a big box office success. Rahman worked with almost all the major Malayalam directors of that time. He took a break from Malayalam films in the early 1990s. He focused on Tamil and Telugu movies instead.
After a long break, he returned to Malayalam cinema. In 2000, he played a police officer in Dreams. In 2004, he acted alongside Mammootty in Black. From 2005 to 2006, he appeared in films like Rajamanikyam and Mahasamudram. In 2007, he played lead roles in Abraham & Lincoln and Nanma. He also had roles in Kamal's Goal and Ranjith's Rock & Roll.
In 2011, Rahman was in Traffic. This was a thrilling road movie with multiple stories. He also appeared in Manjadikuru and Bachelor Party. In 2013, he starred in Mumbai Police. This film was a big hit in Kerala. Later, he acted in Lavender (2015) and Marupadi (2016). In 2018, he was in the action thriller Ranam. In 2019, he starred in Virus, a medical thriller about the 2018 Nipah virus outbreak in Kerala.
Success in Tamil and Telugu Films
Rahman's first Tamil film was Nilave Malare in 1986. He then appeared in films like Vasantha Raagam and Anbulla Appa. In 1999, he acted in Sangamam. This film was about a rivalry between classical and folk dance. The music for Sangamam was created by the famous A. R. Rahman. In 2004, he voiced his own character for the first time in the Tamil film Ethiri.
After a break, Rahman returned to Telugu cinema in 2005 with Dhairyam. He also played a villain in Billa (2007). He played the same villain role in the Telugu version of Billa (2009).
In 2009, he worked with Suhasini Maniratnam again in Balam after 25 years. His film Vaamanan was also very successful. In 2010, his Telugu film Simha became one of the highest-earning movies of the year. He also appeared in Oosaravelli and Vanthaan Vendraan. Rahman has won several awards for his acting.
- He received the State Award for Best Supporting Actor for his very first film, Koodevide. He also won the Film Critics Award and Chamber Award for this movie.
- In 1984, he won the Kerala Film Chamber Award for Best Actor for Ithiri Poove Chuvannapoove.
- In 2007, he received the Award for Trendsetter at the Etisalat Everest Film awards in Dubai. This award recognized his influence in Malayalam cinema over 78 years. People voted for him over other big stars like Kamal Haasan and Sreedevi.
- His Malayalam film Manjadikkuru won two awards at the 2008 International Film Festival in Kerala.
- He received the Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actor in 1983 for Koodevide.

About Rahman's Life
Rahman was born on May 23, 1967, in Abu Dhabi. His family comes from Nilambur, Kerala. He is the older of two children. His parents are K. M. A. Rahman and Savithri. He has a younger sister named Shameema.
He went to school in Abu Dhabi, Bangalore, and Ooty. He also studied at Dr. Gafoor Memorial MES Mampad College.
Rahman is married to Meherunnisa, and they have two children. Meherunnisa is the sister of music director A. R. Rahman's former wife, Saira Banu.
