It's found within Washington Township, which is part of Rush County. Raleigh is about 1,011 feet (308 meters) above sea level.
History of Raleigh
Raleigh was officially planned and marked out on a map in the year 1847. This process is called "platting," which means creating a map that shows the boundaries of land and streets.
The community was given its name after Raleigh, North Carolina, a much larger city in another state.
A post office was opened in Raleigh in 1847. This office helped people send and receive mail in the area. However, the post office eventually closed down in 1902.
