Sir Ralph Eure was born into a noble family. His father was William Eure, 1st Baron Eure, a powerful lord from County Durham. His mother was Elizabeth Willoughby. Ralph followed in his family's footsteps, becoming a knight and a leader.

Early Career and Parliament

In 1531, Ralph Eure became the deputy leader of Scarborough Castle. This was a very important job. He was in charge of the castle during a big event called the Pilgrimage of Grace. This was a time when many people in England protested against the king. In 1537, he became the main leader, or constable, of the castle.

Sir Ralph was recognized for his service and was made a knight in 1536. This meant he was given the title "Sir." From 1542 to 1544, he served as a Member of Parliament for Scarborough. As an MP, he helped make laws for the country.

Protecting the Scottish Border

Sir Ralph Eure was very important in defending England's northern border. In 1542, he became a deputy Warden of the Middle Marches. The Marches were the lands near the border between England and Scotland. Wardens were like military governors, keeping the peace and defending the land.

He was promoted to full Warden in 1544. This was during a time of conflict with Scotland called the Rough Wooing. During this period, Sir Ralph led several attacks into Scotland. He was a brave and active leader in these border battles.

His Final Battle

Sir Ralph Eure's military career ended in a major battle. He was killed on 27 February 1545. This happened during the Scottish victory at the Battle of Ancrum Moor.

Sir Ralph had married Margery Bowes by 1529. They had three sons and two daughters together. After his death, his father took over his official duties. His son, William, later inherited the family title in 1548.
