Rama Narayanan (born April 3, 1949 – died June 22, 2014) was a talented Indian film director and producer. He was famous for making many movies, especially in the Tamil language.
In the 1980s, he became well-known for directing films where animals played important roles. Later, in the 1990s, he made several movies about Hindu gods and stories. He also led the Tamil Film Producers Council for three terms. Rama Narayanan passed away in 2014 in Singapore due to health issues related to his kidneys.

Rama Narayanan's Film Career
Rama Narayanan first came to Chennai, a big city in India, hoping to become a songwriter. However, his path changed, and he started writing dialogues for films instead. He even teamed up with his friend M. A. Khaja, and they wrote dialogues together using the name Ram-Rahim.
Early Works and Milestones
In 1976, Narayanan wrote his very first story, screenplay, and dialogues for a film called Aasai Arubadhu Naal. A year later, in 1977, he produced his first movie, Meenakshi Kungumam. He then directed his first film, Sumai, in 1981.
He also wrote the script for a film called Punnami Naagu. A special moment in his career was his 50th film, Veeran Veluthambi. For this movie, a famous writer and politician, M. Karunanidhi, wrote the story and dialogues. His 100th film was Thirupathi Ezhumalai Venkatesa, which was a big achievement.
In his later years, around the 2010s, he completed a comedy film named Siva Poojaiyil Karadi. It starred actors Shiva and Udhayathara. However, this film was never released in cinemas.
Public Service and Awards
Beyond films, Rama Narayanan also served the public. He was elected as an MLA (a type of elected representative) for the Karaikudi area in 1989. In 1996, he became the chairman of the Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram, an important cultural organization. He also received the Kalaimamani award from the State Government, which is a high honor for artists.

He also produced several films through his production companies, like Sri Devipriya Films. Some of the movies he produced include Meenakshi Kungumam, Velum Mayilum Thunai, and Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya.
