Who is Ramandu?
Ramandu looks like an old man. He has a long, silver beard that reaches his bare feet. His robe seems to be made from shiny "silver sheep" wool. He was once a star in the sky. When he grew too old, he came down to an island. This island is located near the very end of the world.
Ramandu's Family
Ramandu lives on the island with his daughter. Her name is Lilliandil. She later marries Caspian X. Caspian becomes the King of Narnia. This makes Ramandu Caspian's father-in-law. Ramandu also has a grandson named Rilian.
How Ramandu Stays Young
Every morning, Ramandu and his daughter sing a special song. They sing it as the sun rises. This song might even help the sun come up! After their song, many white birds fly in. They come from "the valleys of the sun." These birds land all over the island. One bird brings a special "fire-berry." It places the berry in Ramandu's mouth. Each time Ramandu eats a fire-berry, he becomes younger. He will keep getting younger until he is a baby. Then, he will turn back into a star in the sky.
Ramandu's Island
Ramandu's Island is the very last island before the end of the world. It is a beautiful place. The island has gentle hills that are soft like pillows. A sweet "purple" smell fills the air. The island also has many capes and points reaching into the sea.
The Dawn Treader's Visit
The ship Dawn Treader anchored in a wide, shallow bay. At the end of this bay was a flat valley. The ground in the valley was covered with plants like heather. In this valley, there was a large, ruined building. It had columns but no roof. This was where Ramandu lived.
