History of Rand
When Was Rand Established?
A post office opened in Rand in 1915. It helped people send and receive mail for about 20 years, closing down in 1935. This shows that people lived and worked in Rand during that time.
How Rand Got Its Name
Rand was named after a nearby area called the Rand Mining District. This mining district was about 16 miles east, in the Gabbs Mountains. A mining district is a special area where people look for valuable minerals like gold or silver. The town itself was named after R. J. Randall, who owned some mining claims in that district.
