Raner Christercunean Collins (born in 1952) is an important judge in the United States. He works for the United States District Court for the District of Arizona. This court handles many different kinds of legal cases. Judge Collins has served as a judge for a long time, helping to make sure laws are followed fairly.

Early Life and Education

Raner Collins was born in Malvern, Arkansas, in 1952. He worked hard in his studies. In 1973, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. He got this from Arkansas Polytechnic College. Later, he went to law school. In 1975, he received his law degree. This degree, called a Juris Doctor, was from the University of Arizona College of Law.

Career as a Judge

After finishing law school, Raner Collins began his career. He worked for the Pima County Attorney's Office. He was a law clerk and then a trial attorney. From 1981 to 1983, he served as a city magistrate. This meant he was a judge for the City of Tucson Court. He then returned to the Pima County Attorney's Office.

From 1985 to 1998, he was a judge for the Pima County Superior Court. This experience prepared him for an even bigger role.

Becoming a Federal Judge

On May 11, 1998, President Bill Clinton chose Raner Collins. He nominated him to be a judge. This new role was for the United States District Court for the District of Arizona. The United States Senate approved his nomination. He officially became a federal judge on August 3, 1998.

Judge Collins took on more leadership. On September 3, 2013, he became the Chief Judge. He held this important position until September 4, 2018. After that, on March 4, 2019, he took "senior status." This means he still serves as a judge but with a reduced caseload.

Important Decision

In 2011, a sad event happened. The Chief Judge, John Roll, passed away. All the judges in the District of Arizona knew him well. Judge Collins made an important decision. He ordered that none of those judges could oversee the case of the person involved. This was to ensure fairness. It made sure there were no personal feelings in the court case.
