Rangiora Airfield (NZRT) is a small airport located near the town of Rangiora in New Zealand. It is about 4.8 kilometers (3 miles) west-north-west of the town center. This airfield is north of Christchurch, a larger city. The Waimakariri District Council looks after and manages the airfield.
About Rangiora Airfield
Rangiora Airfield is a special place for people who love to fly small planes. It is not a big international airport. Instead, it is mostly used for fun and recreational flying. Many people come here to enjoy hobbies like gliding or flying private aircraft.
Runways and Aircraft
The airfield has three runways, which are like long, flat paths for planes to take off and land. All three runways are made of grass. The main runway is about 950 meters (3,117 feet) long. This is long enough for planes as big as a Douglas DC-3. A DC-3 is a famous old type of airplane.
The runways at Rangiora Airfield do not have lights. This means pilots need to be extra careful when flying here, especially when it is getting dark. They must pay close attention when they are coming in to land.
Hangars and Facilities
You will find about 40 private hangars at Rangiora Airfield. A hangar is like a garage for an airplane. These hangars are owned by individuals or groups who keep their planes there. Since these are private properties, visitors are asked to respect them.
The airfield also provides fuel for aircraft. Pilots can get Jet A1 and AvGas, which are special types of fuel for planes. To get fuel, pilots use a "Swipe Card." This makes it easy for them to refuel their aircraft when needed.
