Ransford Brempong, born on July 22, 1981, is a Canadian basketball star. He used to play professionally and was even part of the Canadian National Team. Ransford played for the Fraser Valley Bandits in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL).

Today, he is the Lead Assistant Coach for the Bandits. Before that, he was a commentator for the team's broadcasts. Ransford also runs his own basketball group called WCT Hoops. This group helps young basketball players in British Columbia improve their skills.

College Basketball Career

Ransford Brempong played college basketball for the Western Carolina Catamounts. He was a starting player for five years. While at Western Carolina University (WCU), he set a new record. He broke the all-time shot block record for his conference.

Playing Professionally in Europe

After college, Ransford became a professional basketball player. He played for teams in different countries. He played for Matrixx Magixx and Donar in the Netherlands. Donar was known as Hanzevast Capitals back then. He also played for Bayer Giants Leverkusen and Gloria Giants Düsseldorf in Germany.

Return to Canadian Basketball

In 2018, Ransford made a big comeback to basketball. He had been retired for six years. He joined the St. John's Edge team in the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC). The next year, in 2019, he played for the Fraser Valley Bandits. This team is part of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL).

Playing for Team Canada

Ransford Brempong also spent almost eight years playing for the Canadian National Team. He first joined the Junior National Team in 2001. Later, he moved up to the Senior Men's team. He played for the senior team for three summers. During this time, Ransford got to play with and against many famous basketball players. Some of these legends include Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul, Dirk Nowitzki, Yao Ming, and Steve Nash.

About Ransford's Life

Early Life and High School

Ransford was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His parents came from Ghana, a country in West Africa. In 1993, Ransford moved to Toronto. He spent his elementary and high school years in Thornhill, Ontario. In his final year of high school, he was chosen as one of the top five players in the greater Toronto area by the Toronto Star newspaper.

Overcoming Challenges

After high school, Ransford spent five years in North Carolina. This is where he attended Western Carolina University. In 2012, Ransford was in a car accident. He broke his back, which was a very serious injury. He spent the next four years working hard on his recovery. He did a lot of physical therapy to get better. Six years after the accident, he was able to play basketball again. Ransford now lives in North Vancouver, British Columbia. He is married and has three children.
