Ransomville, Kansas facts for kids
Ransomville is a small, quiet place in Franklin County, Kansas, in the United States. It's what we call an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and buildings that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.
You can find Ransomville about two miles northeast of Williamsburg. It's right where the U.S. 50 highway meets Hamilton Road.
A Look Back at Ransomville's History
Ransomville got its name from a person named J. H. Ransom. He was important because he started the very first store there. This store became a central spot, and over time, other buildings and homes grew up around it. That's how the community began to form!
For many years, Ransomville had its own post office. It first opened in 1881. A post office is where people send and receive letters and packages. This post office served the community for a long time. However, it eventually closed down in 1915.
