Early Life and School
Raquel Peña was born in Santiago de los Caballeros, a city in the Dominican Republic. Her father, Rafael Leocadio Peña Guillén, worked in the tobacco industry. Her mother was Estela Rodríguez.
She went to the Sagrado Corazón de Jesús School for her first years of school. Later, she studied at the De La Salle School. She then went to college at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra.
Her Career Journey
After finishing college, Raquel Peña began working in her family's businesses. These businesses included tobacco and other commercial companies. She became a manager in these companies.
Becoming a Professor
In 2000, Raquel Peña started teaching at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra. This is the same university where she had studied.
Becoming Vice President
In 2019, Luis Abinader chose Raquel Peña to be his running mate. They ran together for the Modern Revolutionary Party in the 2020 elections. A vice president is a high-ranking official who is ready to take over if the president cannot do their job. They also help the president with many important tasks.
On July 5, 2020, Raquel Peña and Luis Abinader won the election. She officially became the Vice President on August 16, 2020.
