Raquette River (Bédard River tributary) facts for kids
The Raquette River is a river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the Bédard River, which then joins the mighty Saguenay River. The Raquette River flows through two areas: Larouche and Saint-Bruno.
The land around the Raquette River is mostly used for farming. Some parts are also used for forestry, which means cutting down trees for wood. Roads like Route 169 and Route 170 help people get around this area.
The river usually freezes over from early December to late March. It's generally safe to walk or play on the ice from mid-December to mid-March.

Journey of the Raquette River
The Raquette River starts at a small lake called Raquette Lake. This lake is in the municipality of Larouche. Raquette Lake is about 0.4 kilometers (0.25 miles) long.
The source of the river is:
- 1.4 kilometers (0.9 miles) south of Route 170.
- 1.4 kilometers (0.9 miles) east of the center of Larouche village.
- 4.7 kilometers (2.9 miles) northwest of Cascouia Bay.
From Raquette Lake, the river flows for about 14.3 kilometers (8.9 miles). It drops about 51 meters (167 feet) in height along its journey. The first part of the river flows through forests. The lower part flows through farmland.
The river flows mostly west and then northwest. It passes under roads and a railway line. It also crosses the Saint-Alphonse road.
Where the Raquette River Ends
The Raquette River flows into the Bédard River on its south bank. This meeting point is in an agricultural area.
This spot is located:
- 1.3 kilometers (0.8 miles) southwest of the Canadian National railway.
- 4.3 kilometers (2.7 miles) northwest of the center of Saint-Bruno village.
- 4.4 kilometers (2.7 miles) south of downtown Alma.
From there, the water from the Raquette River travels along the Bédard River for about 11.5 kilometers (7.1 miles). Then, it joins the huge Saguenay River. The Saguenay River carries the water for another 139 kilometers (86 miles) east to Tadoussac. Finally, it flows into the Saint Lawrence estuary, which leads to the Atlantic Ocean!
