What Is the Story About?
The movie's story mostly happens in Doha, a city in Qatar. A rich businessman named Shekar Menon wants his daughter's wedding to have a traditional Kerala-style feast. This feast is called a Sadya, and it's a big meal served on a banana leaf.
A famous actor, Mohanlal, invites a skilled chef named Valliyottu Thirumeni to cook for the wedding. Valliyottu Thirumeni, along with his son Balu and their team, flies to Doha. But things get tricky, and Balu has to take over the cooking from his father. As the movie's name Rasam (Taste) suggests, food is the most important part of the story!

How the Movie Was Made
Choosing the Actors
Mohanlal agreed to be in the movie for a special guest appearance. He plays himself, a friend of the rich businessman in Dubai. Director Rajeev Nath said that Mohanlal's role is very important because he helps Indrajith's character with his cooking work at the wedding.
Indrajith Sukumaran plays Balu, a chef from Kerala. Balu is not just a cook; he also has college degrees in engineering and business! He follows in his father's footsteps, who is a well-known chef invited to cook for the wedding in Doha.
Varuna Shetty made her first Malayalam movie appearance in Rasam. She plays Janaki, the daughter of the Dubai businessman whose wedding is central to the story. Her father brings in the best chefs from Kerala to prepare a traditional Sadya for her special day.

The movie started filming on January 8, 2014, in Doha, Qatar. Some scenes were even shot at a restaurant called Spice Boat, which is actually owned by Indrajith's mother, Mallika Sukumaran.
