Raso is a small place in Cochise County, Arizona, in the United States. It's known as a populated place, which means people live there, but it's not a big city or town with its own local government. Raso is located about seven miles northeast of a town called Willcox. It sits in an area known as Dragoon Pass.

About Raso, Arizona

Raso is located in the state of Arizona. It is part of Cochise County. The area is quite high up, with an estimated elevation of 4,377 feet (1,334 m) above sea level. That's like being on top of a really tall building!

How Raso Started

Raso was founded a long time ago, in 1881. It began as a small stop for trains on the Southern Pacific Railroad. Back then, it was called "Railroad Pass."

It was a "flag station," which means trains would only stop there if someone waved a flag to get on, or if a passenger on the train wanted to get off. It wasn't a busy station with lots of people.

Why the Name Changed

In 1903, the name of the place was changed from "Railroad Pass" to "Raso." This change was made to make it easier to use in telegraph messages. Shorter names were better for sending information quickly over telegraph lines.

The word Raso comes from Spanish. It means "a flat plain." This name probably describes the land around the area.
