Ravenstor railway station is a special train station in Wirksworth, Derbyshire, England. It's part of the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, which is a heritage railway. This means it's a historic railway line that has been preserved and often uses old trains. Ravenstor is the very last stop at the northern end of this line.

How Ravenstor Station Began

Ravenstor station was created by a group called the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway Association (EVRA). They worked with another group, WyvernRail, to reopen an old railway line. This line used to carry only minerals, like limestone, not passengers.

The railway line was quite steep, going uphill at a slope of 1 in 27. This is a big challenge for trains! Over several years, people worked hard to build a completely new platform for passengers.

In August 2005, the line was ready for people to ride on it. The first passenger train ran on September 1, 2005. The station officially opened on September 2, 2005. A special guest, Gwyneth Dunwoody, who was a Member of Parliament (MP) and a chairman of a transport committee, opened the station.

How the Station Operates Now

The regular train service at Ravenstor station stopped in 2016. Now, the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway Association (EVRA), which is a group of supporters, runs trains there. The service is not as regular as it used to be.

Where Ravenstor Station Is Located

Ravenstor was once a place where local quarries gathered materials. It didn't have a passenger service until the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway started one. The station is at the bottom of an old, unused uphill track. This track was built to connect to the Cromford and High Peak Railway.

Today, the old track area is home to the National Stone Centre and the Steeple Grange Light Railway. People hope that one day, with enough money, the railway line might be extended further up the old track towards Middleton Top. This would also help people visit the nearby National Stone Centre.
