Ravenswood is a cool neighborhood located on the North Side of Chicago, Illinois. Even though it's not one of Chicago's 77 official "community areas," it's mostly found within the Lincoln Square area. A smaller part of Ravenswood, east of Ravenswood Avenue and the train tracks, is in the Uptown community area.
Ravenswood started in 1868 as a special suburb for people who commuted to work in Chicago. A group of people who bought and sold land, called real-estate speculators, created the Ravenswood Land Company. They bought 194 acres of land, which was about eight miles north of Chicago. This land had lots of trees and was home to many ravens, which is how the neighborhood got its name!
