Ray Cochrane (born 18 June 1957) is a retired jockey from Northern Ireland. He was born in Banbridge, County Down. After his racing career, he became a sports agent.
Ray Cochrane was a very successful jockey. He won three of the five most important horse races in Britain, known as the British Classic Races. In 1986, he won the 1000 Guineas Stakes and the Epsom Oaks riding a horse named Midway Lady. Two years later, in 1988, he won the famous Epsom Derby with the horse Kahyasi.
He also had other big wins. In 1984, he rode Chief Singer to victory in the Group 1 July Cup and the Sussex Stakes. For his amazing career, Ray Cochrane received a special award called the Flat Jockey Special Recognition Lester Award in the year 2000.

A Heroic Act
Ray Cochrane is also known for his bravery. In 2000, there was a plane crash near Newmarket. The small plane caught fire, and the pilot sadly died. Ray Cochrane was there and bravely saved the life of another famous jockey, Frankie Dettori.
For his heroic actions, Ray Cochrane was given the Queen's Commendation for Bravery in 2002. After this event, he became Frankie Dettori's agent, helping him manage his career. He continued in this role until 2020.
