Ray Cochrane was born on June 18, 1957, in Banbridge, Northern Ireland. He is a famous retired jockey, which is a person who rides horses in races. After his racing career, he became a sports agent.

Ray Cochrane is well-known for winning many important horse races. He won three of the five biggest races in Britain, called the British Classic Races. These wins included the 1000 Guineas Stakes and the Epsom Oaks in 1986, both with a horse named Midway Lady. In 1988, he won the famous Epsom Derby riding Kahyasi.

He also had other big wins. In 1984, he won the July Cup and the Sussex Stakes with a horse called Chief Singer. In 2000, he received a special award called the Flat Jockey Special Recognition Lester Award for his amazing career.

A Heroic Act

Ray Cochrane is also a hero! In 2000, he was in a plane crash with another famous jockey, Frankie Dettori. Their small plane crashed and caught fire right after taking off. Sadly, the pilot did not survive.

Ray Cochrane bravely saved Frankie Dettori's life during this terrible accident. For his courage, he received the Queen's Commendation for Bravery in 2002. After this, Ray Cochrane became Frankie Dettori's agent, helping him manage his career until 2020.
