Ray Lampe's Journey
Ray Lampe grew up in Chicago. For 25 years, he worked in his family's trucking business. But he had a passion for cooking, especially barbecue!
In the early 1980s, Ray started competing in amateur BBQ cook-offs. These are contests where people show off their best barbecue recipes. In 2000, he moved to Florida. There, he became an expert in outdoor cooking.
In 2008, Ray became the main chef at a restaurant called Southern Hospitality. This restaurant in New York City was owned by Justin Timberlake. Ray helped make the restaurant's food even better.
Later, in 2016, Ray announced a new plan. He teamed up with Suzanne and Roger Perry to open his own restaurant. It's called Dr. BBQ, just like his nickname! This restaurant is located in St. Petersburg, Florida.
On TV!
Ray Lampe is also a familiar face on television. He has been a judge on several cooking shows. This means he tastes the food and decides who cooked it best.
Some shows where he was a judge include the World Food Championships. He also judged on Tailgate Warriors With Guy Fieri and American Grilled.
Ray has also been a contestant on a TV show. He competed on the Food Network's show, Chopped. On this show, chefs get mystery ingredients and have to create amazing dishes.
