David Guas (born June 5, 1975) is a famous chef, TV star, restaurant owner, and cookbook writer. He is from New Orleans, Louisiana, a city known for its amazing food.

About David Guas

David Guas grew up in New Orleans. He spent ten years working as a pastry chef, making delicious desserts for big companies. In 2007, he decided to start his own businesses. He began working as a consultant, helping with catering, and writing cookbooks.

In November 2010, he opened his own New Orleans-style restaurant. It is called Bayou Bakery, Coffee Bar & Eatery. His first cookbook, DamGoodSweet - Desserts to Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth New Orleans Style, was a big hit. Food & Wine magazine named it one of the "Best New Dessert Cookbooks." It was also a finalist for important awards like the James Beard Award.

David Guas's Restaurants

David Guas owns Bayou Bakery, Coffee Bar & Eatery in Arlington, Virginia. This restaurant opened in 2010. Many famous magazines have praised his restaurant. They love his tasty Louisiana-style dishes and special desserts. In 2019, the restaurant won the Arlington Best Business Award. David Guas was also named Chef of the Year by a shrimp association.

In 2014, Guas opened a second Bayou Bakery location in Capitol Hill. This restaurant was in a very old, historic building. It used to be a stable for horse-drawn ambulances! The building's renovations even won an award. However, David Guas decided to close this location after two years. In 2017, he opened another restaurant called Lil' B in Washington, DC. This restaurant also closed in early 2019.

Chefs Feeding Families

In March 2020, David Guas started a quick relief effort in his area. He wanted to feed students and families healthy meals. As someone from New Orleans, he knew how to cook outside after Hurricane Katrina. So, he started cooking meals for people in need.

This effort grew into a big program called Chefs Feeding Families. He worked with a group called Real Food for Kids. This program not only feeds students but also helps people in the restaurant business keep their jobs. He got local officials and community groups to help. Since March 2020, they have served over 203,000 meals! This amazing work has been recognized by CNBC and the Aspen Institute.

Helping Afghan Refugees

Guas also helped with The Community Spoon. This group provided meals and groceries to Afghan refugees. These families had just arrived in Northern Virginia with very little. Guas and his team made vegetarian meals for them. These meals were given to the refugee families in need. For Guas, offering home-cooked meals was a way to welcome them. It also helped with nutrition for those who had been through a lot.

His efforts to fight food insecurity have been recognized. In 2020, he was called a "Community Weaver" by the Aspen Institute. In 2021, he received the Good Neighbor Award. In 2022, he was honored with the Arlington County COVID Hero Award. This award is for people who went above and beyond to help their neighbors during the pandemic.

Personal Life

David Guas lives in Northern Virginia with his wife, Simone Rathlé. She works in Public relations. They have two sons, Spencer and Kemp. In his free time, David Guas enjoys hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
