Early Life and Education
Raymond Groarke was born in 1952. He attended Clongowes Wood College for his schooling. Later, he studied at University College Dublin and King's Inns. In 1973, he became a barrister. A barrister is a type of lawyer who represents people in court. He mainly worked as a lawyer in the Midlands area of Ireland.
Judicial Career
Serving as a Circuit Court Judge
In 1996, Raymond Groarke was appointed as a judge of the Circuit Court. The Circuit Court handles many different types of legal cases. From 1998 to 2005, he worked on the Eastern Circuit. After that, he moved to the Western Circuit.
After his time as President, he continued to serve as a Circuit Court judge. He worked in County Galway and County Mayo. These counties are part of the Western Circuit.
Leading the Circuit Court
In 2012, Raymond Groarke was chosen to be the President of the Circuit Court. This is a very important leadership role for a judge. As President, he was also a special member of the High Court. His term as President ended in July 2019. Patricia Ryan took over from him as the new President.
Retirement from the Bench
Raymond Groarke's last day as a judge was on January 10, 2022. He retired after a long career in law.
