Raúl "Chato" Padilla Mendoza (born June 17, 1916 – died February 3, 1994) was a famous Mexican actor. He was a key member of the comedy group led by Chespirito, a very popular Mexican comedian. Raúl Padilla was especially well-known for playing the character Jaimito, el Cartero, which means "Jaimito, the Mailman," in the TV show El Chavo del Ocho.

Raúl Padilla's Acting Career

Raúl Padilla joined Chespirito's TV shows in 1979. He took on many roles that were previously played by another actor, Ramón Valdés, who had left the show. Padilla quickly became a beloved part of the cast.

Famous Characters and TV Shows

One of Raúl Padilla's most memorable characters was Jaimito, el Cartero, in the popular TV series El Chavo del Ocho. Jaimito was a kind but often sleepy mailman who always dreamed of avoiding work. He often said, "It's better to avoid work to avoid fatigue!"

Padilla also appeared in the movie El Chanfle, which was written by and starred Chespirito. Another important character he played was Licenciado Morales. This character was in charge of the local police station in the TV show Los Caquitos.

Raúl Padilla passed away on February 3, 1994, when he was 77 years old. He died from a heart attack.

His Nickname "Chato"

His nickname, "Chato," means "pug" in Spanish. People called him this because of his broad, flat nose. It was a friendly nickname that stuck with him throughout his career.

Family in Show Business

Raúl Padilla's son, Raúl Padilla Jr., also known as "El Choforo," followed in his father's footsteps. He also worked with Chespirito and was an actor himself. "El Choforo" passed away on February 3, 2013, at the age of 73.
