Sir Reade Stafford was the oldest son of Thomas Stafford. His family lived at a place called Bradfield Place in Berkshire, England. His mother was Anne Best.

Growing Up in Berkshire

In 1570, Reade Stafford married Mabel. She was a widow, meaning her previous husbands had passed away. Mabel had been married to Francis Waferer from the City of London and Nicholas Williams from Burghfield in Berkshire. Mabel's father was Richard Staverton, who lived in Warfield, also in Berkshire.

When his father passed away in 1584, Reade Stafford inherited Bradfield Place. This meant he became the owner of the family home and lands.

Becoming a Member of Parliament

A Member of Parliament (MP) is someone chosen to represent a group of people in the country's government. They help make laws and important decisions. Sir Reade Stafford was elected to Parliament twice.

First, he was an MP for East Grinstead in 1593. Later, from 1597 to 1598, he represented Truro in Cornwall. During his time representing Truro, he served alongside another MP named Maurice Berkeley. This was during the late Elizabethan era, which was the period when Queen Elizabeth I ruled England.
