What's the Movie About?
Corrie's Big Dream
Ready to Run follows 14-year-old Corrie Ortiz. She is a very energetic girl. Corrie dreams of becoming a jockey, which is someone who rides horses in races. This sport is mostly known for male riders.
Corrie's father passed away in a horse racing accident. Her mother does not want her to race. But Corrie remembers her father's spirit. This memory pushes her to try and reach her goal.
Talking to Horses
Corrie has a special gift. Her grandmother calls it the "confidence of horses." This gift lets Corrie talk to her horse, Thunder Jam, or TJ. TJ is a great runner but feels sad. He lives in the shadow of his famous father.
TJ has a huge fear of the starting gates. These are the gates where horses wait before a race begins. He gets very nervous there.
Music Helps TJ Race
To help TJ with his fear, Corrie and her team try something unusual. They put headphones on TJ's ears. Surprisingly, music helps him! TJ can now get through the gate with confidence.
These headphones become TJ's special sign. He wins more and more races with them. B. Moody (Jason Dohring), a former circus rider, becomes TJ's jockey.
A New Challenge
During one race, another horse causes an accident. Moody gets hurt and cannot ride. This means Corrie has to step in. She must take Moody's place as TJ's jockey.
At the final race of the season, their toughest opponent tries to stop them. He tells the judges that TJ's headphones are against the rules. He says they are helping the horse unfairly.
The Final Race
Corrie and TJ are upset. They have to run the race without their special headphones. They have a rough start. But then, Moody has a clever idea. He plays TJ's music over the race course's loud speakers!
TJ hears his familiar song. He feels confident again. With his music playing, TJ goes on to win the made-up Gold Rush Derby.
