About Rebecca Bross

Rebecca Marie Bross was born on July 11, 1993. Her parents are Terry and Donna Bross. She also has an older brother named Benjamin. Rebecca married Billy Burks on December 17, 2022.

Rebecca started gymnastics classes when she was five years old. She trained at WOGA Gymnastics in Plano, Texas. Her coach there was Valeri Liukin, a famous gymnastics coach.

Rebecca's Gymnastics Journey

Early Career and Junior Success

Rebecca first became a Junior International Elite gymnast in 2005. This meant she was one of the top young gymnasts in the country. She competed in her first U.S. Nationals that year. She finished 16th in the all-around and joined the national team.

In 2006, Rebecca placed fourth in the all-around at the U.S. Nationals. This earned her a spot on the team for the 2006 Junior Pan American Artistic Gymnastics Championships. The next year, in 2007, she was chosen for the Pan American Games team. She won a silver medal in the all-around, right behind her teammate Shawn Johnson. Rebecca also won her first national championship title at the 2007 U.S. Championships. Later that year, she won the Junior Japan Invitational.

Senior Debut and World Championships

In 2008, Rebecca competed in some early events like Classics and Invitationals. She won gold medals in the all-around, beam, bars, and floor at the 2008 Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships. She competed alongside her WOGA teammate Nastia Liukin. Rebecca then took a break for the rest of 2008 because of a broken foot.

In 2009, Rebecca faced an ankle injury before the Covergirl Classic. She still competed on uneven bars, but couldn't do other events. At the U.S. National Championships in August 2009, she finished third in the all-around. She also placed third on balance beam and second on floor. This was a great start to her senior career.

Later in October 2009, Rebecca competed at the 2009 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in London, England. She qualified in first place for the all-around final. She also made it to the uneven bars and floor exercise finals. In the all-around final, Rebecca was leading the competition. However, she had a fall on her last tumbling pass on floor. Her teammate Bridget Sloan won the gold medal, and Rebecca earned the silver. Rebecca also tied for the bronze medal on uneven bars.

More Medals and National Titles

In March 2010, Rebecca won the all-around title at the American Cup. She won every event except vault. In April, she won the senior all-around title at the 2010 Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships in Australia. At the 2010 Visa Championships, Rebecca performed very well. She won the all-around title, becoming the 2010 national champion.

She was then selected for the U.S. team for the 2010 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in the Netherlands. There, she helped the United States win a silver medal in the team competition. In the all-around final, after a fall on the beam, she came back strong on floor. She earned the bronze medal in the all-around. Rebecca also won a bronze medal on uneven bars and a silver medal on balance beam.

Injuries and Olympic Trials

During the 2011 Visa Championships, Rebecca dislocated her right kneecap while performing a vault. This injury meant she could not compete for the rest of the 2011 season. Despite the injury, she still placed second on floor exercise.

In the summer of 2012, Rebecca competed in the Olympic trials. She hoped to make the team for the London Olympics. She competed on the balance beam and uneven bars. On the second night of trials, she had a difficult routine on the uneven bars. Because of her scores, Rebecca did not make the Olympic team.

After Gymnastics

Rebecca did not officially announce her retirement from gymnastics. However, she stopped training and competing after the 2012 Olympic trials. Many gymnastics fans consider her to be a very talented gymnast who faced tough luck with injuries. Between 2008 and 2012, she had several injuries. These included a broken foot, a dislocated knee, and other ankle and knee issues.

In September 2013, Rebecca began coaching gymnastics. She worked at Iarov Elite Gymnastics in Dallas, Texas. In 2022, Rebecca finished her studies at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She became a physical therapist, helping people recover from injuries.
