Reccared II facts for kids
Reccared II (in Spanish, Galician and Portuguese, Recaredo) was a very young Visigothic king. He ruled over Hispania (modern-day Spain and Portugal), Septimania (part of modern-day France), and Galicia for a short time in 621. Historians are not sure exactly how long he was king, but it was likely only for a few days or up to a year.
A Young King
Reccared II was the son of King Sisebut. His father placed him on the throne when Reccared was still a child. In the Visigothic Kingdom, kings often tried to pass their power down to their children. However, the powerful noble families usually did not like this idea. They wanted to choose their own kings. Because of this, most attempts to start a royal family line failed. Reccared II's short rule was another example of this.
After Reccared II died, a strong general named Suintila became the new king.
